MEG (book report) essays

MEG (book report) articles The book I read for my report was MEG. This book was about a ancient shark-like animal known as the Megalodon. It was known as one of the fierceiest animals to wander the earth, it would eat anything it could come over that was meat, and it governed the sea domain. In the book MEG the animal came to reality since it had made due in the Marianis sea profundities close to the earths geothermal vents where the warmth from the vents made the water sufficiently warm to endure. The MEG couldn't rise above thease profundities in light of the fact that the extraordinary cold of the water kept the animal detainee to the profound. The MEG, being pregnant as she might have been, she swam close to her mate looking for nourishments. She at that point couldn't take the reality of the craving any longer and she assaulted her mate and ate him, in this manner calling attention to its meat eating nature. As she ate the male, he began to ascend from the profundities, and as she ate him his warm blood streaming over her body kept her warm enough through the rising to remain alive. When she was through the extraordinary frigidity, she was allowed to control the remainder of the sea. In any case, in reality, the animal is wiped out, a few people say that it still exists, however in exceptionally little quantities (obviously). The MEG itself, I have heard it been depicted as a train with teeth, and im sure it dosent miss the mark concerning that. ... <!

Quality - John Galsworthy :: Free Essay Writer

Quality - John Galsworthy Depleted, severe, and hopeless is the way that numerous individuals feel when they get up in the first part of the day to prepare for work. Indeed, even the very idea of work sets a few people feeling terrible. Others may wouldn't fret work yet at the same time don't anticipate going. It is an uncommon event to discover somebody who is totally happy with their profession. In any case, for one man, work is delight. In â€Å"Quality† by Galsworthy, Gessler, the shoemaker, is demonstrated to take care of business of trustworthiness and of complete devotion to his work. Mr. Gessler had his own shoe business where he made cowhide boots. His devotion is appeared through the way that, â€Å"He made just what was requested, failing to take instant shoes down from the shelf.† (â€Å"Quality† pg. 213.) He needed each pair of boots to be an exceptionally fit to every person and for each pair he made, he utilized an example taken from the customer’s foot size. One day the storyteller of the story strolled into Mr. Galsworthy’s shop wearing a couple of boots from a major business. Mr. Gessler saw them immediately and a little while later he stated, â€Å"Dey get id all, dey get id by notice, gesture by work. Dey remove it from us, who lofe our boots.† (â€Å"Quality† pg.215) Later in the story, the peruser comes to discover that Mr. Gessler is compelled to forfeit portion of his shop to a major business. This didn't bother him, and he kept on making his boots at a similar cost and with a similar measure of careful wo rk. He should be really devoted so as to adore his business unequivocally. Mr. Gessler spent such an extraordinary measure of time setting up the shoes, never attempting to appease the procedure, so as to make them as impeccable as could be expected under the circumstances and along these lines, he remained behind the entirety of his work. The storyteller, distracted of the way that Mr.Gessler was so energetic about his boots once said to him, â€Å"Mr. Gessler, that last pair of boots squeaked, you know.† Angered by the boy’s remark, Mr. Gessler stated, â€Å"Zend dem back! I will take a gander at dem.† He proceeded to state, â€Å"Zome boods, are terrible from birdt. In the event that I can do noding wid dem, I dake dem off your bill.† (â€Å"Quality† pg. 215) Not just does this show devotion, yet in addition uprightness since he spoke the truth about his work and needed to fulfill his client.

Small talk

Small talk Well my friends, yesterday I took a little bit of a nap on the bus on the way home from my field hockey game, and when I awoke, what to my wondering eyes did appear but snow?! I kid you not. It was snowing. And sticking! Ive already mentioned that Im from New Jersey- I know what snow is. Ive seen plenty of it before. Ive seen it piled 3 feet high, layered with ice, piled in driftsIm no stranger to snow. But snow before Halloween just weirds me out, man. Seriously. Yikes. Speaking of weird, despite the fact that there was definitely a layer of snow on the ground yesterday morning, it had all melted by last night. This isnt exactly weird, since it is still October, and the snow was pretty wet. What is weird is that last night (and today) were downright pleasant in terms of weather. I just dont get it. Anyway, I thought Id wrote a quick little entry here just to answer some questions that have been posed to me over the last week or so Timur said, I hear MIT even has a mailing list specifically to notify students of events that have free food. :) This is most certainly true. Im not personally on that particular mailing list, but I was planning to write a little feature about MIT mailing lists in the near future, so stay tuned! Mike asked, hey, just a question about athletics. I am interested in playing football at MIT. Are football practices from 5-7 as well? Thats really short! I havent had a chance to contact the coach yet. Im pretty sure all sports follow pretty much the same schedule. According to Section 2.12 of the Rules of the Faculty, no classes or tests can be scheduled during those 2 hours. If coaches decide to hold practices say, from 4-7, some students will have conflict with classes, and since the NCAA has really strict rules about Division III athletics, that can get really messy. I can also say that the field hockey and football teams often pass each other on the way into and out of the athletic center during those 2 hours. That said, next time I see Kevin 09, who lives next door to me and plays football, Ill be sure to check. =) In my entry about Woodie Flowers, Nehalita asked, Btw, how involved were you in FIRST as a highschooler? I actually only spent one year involved with FIRST. I started working with the team during my junior year because a friend of mine finally convinced me to join. I had a great time (go team 30!) but a whole list of unfortunate things happened to our team over the course of that year. We lost our corporate funding, our advisor was getting tired of the massive time committment, and our principal just kind of got rid of the whole thing. So our team died and I didnt get to participate during my senior year, which was pretty sad. But during that one year, I definitely became a core memeber of the build time (staying at school until 10 PM on the days leading up to Ship Day) In my entry about duct tape, Jonathan asked, Ok, just have to ask after the duct tape comment are you from Texas? and Im just going to assume he was talking to me so I can answer and not feel guilty for not responding to his question. As I mentioned just a minute ago in this entry, Im actaully from New Jersey. And what is it about duct tape that makes you think of Texas? Also, Merudh asked awhile ago about how his school doesnt rankto be perfectly honest, I dont even remember how I addressed this on the application. Im sure theres some box that can be checked that says school does not rank. I do know that I wrote up a small description of my high school/district and stuck it into that anything else? section of every application I filled out. Also, Id love to tell you my point of view about the MCVSD and MIT admissions, but it would be a waste to post it here, since it applies to exactly no one else. (Merudh and I went to high schools in the same district. We even met on a nerdy class trip.) But feel free to shoot me an email with any questions you might have about it, and Ill be sure to get back to you!

Is The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights - 2060 Words

In Tampa, Florida, Ralph Wald walked in on his former neighbor Walter Conley, in bed with his wife. After he fatally shot Conley, who was less than half his age, Wald claimed he did not recognize him and assumed he was a stranger raping his wife. He was acquitted after two days of testimony and according to the Tampa Bay Times, Wald’s defense team invoked the Stand Your Ground law noting that Wald had ‘no duty to retreat’ when facing danger within his own home. Article 12 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: â€Å"No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such†¦show more content†¦The core of these laws is that individuals should be able to use deadly force when they believe their lives might be in danger, instead of trying to avoid conflict at all cost. By allowing such log ic for the use of lethal force, Stand Your Ground laws are severely flawed, for they increase violence, targets people with color and allow criminals to get away with murder. The notorious case of George Zimmerman, a Florida man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin ignited a national debate surrounding The Stand Your Ground law. On February 26, 2012, Martin was returning from a nearby convenience store when he was shot and killed. Zimmerman claimed he was being physically attacked by the unarmed teenager, causing him to fire in self-defense. Various people have been led to believe the misconception that this law had nothing to do with Zimmerman’s acquittal for the killing of Trayvon Martin. Police Chief Bill Lee stated that the decision not to arrest Zimmerman had nothing to do with Florida s controversial Stand Your Ground law because from an investigative standpoint, it was purely a matter of self-defense. The New York Times also believed â€Å"Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law†¦ has not been

With the growing of technology and people around the world using the internet more often, the cloud is becoming more popular than ever before. The United States National Institute of Standards and Technology has defined cloud computing as follows: Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction [1]. There are many uses of the cloud but the main uses people use the cloud for is to host websites, store documents, and to stream TV shows and movies. The commitment I see from the members is such a confirmation of why I so strongly believe in unions. Unions are so fundememtally important in at this time when a sense of community seems harder and harder to connect with. The Dept of Revenue, Local 150, leadership is actively engaged in an aggressive campain to involve the lower paid workers in their agency by doing one on one contacts with ten identified work areas. The activists are introducing themselves, and finding out what the workers need. Pretty basic stuff, but often shyed away from by leaders because you have to put yourself and your beliefs out in the open. The general membership is responding, over 30% of their members attended the monthly meeting (thats about 200 members), members unannomously voted to send 500.00 dollars of their treasury funds to the SEIU relief fund, the leaders have set up collection cans throu gh out their complex for folks to make ongoing donations to the SEIU Relief Fund, and the local has plans to revisit another 500.00 dollar pledge next quarter for when the attention of the public might start to waver. The families will need help long into the future when right now they cant imagine their needs. I am speaking from experience as I lost my father, a State Police Officer, in 1967. The fact that people who have never met give what they can to strangers in need is so reassuring. Submitted by Marcy ChongDC HQ StaffI work at SEIU Headquarters in DC, but I was at a conference in NYC on the day of the attacks. I felt the hurt and sadness all around me in the city for the day and a half that I was stranded there. It was as tangible as the chemical smell in the air. I came home to DC by train, as the airports were all still closed. Many people in Penn Station voiced concern over the lack of security there in the chaotic crush of people trying to leave the city. Sure enough, our train was halted for a bomb scare as we approached Newark. One thing that became very clear to me, is that we cannot police our way to peace either at home or abroad. The freedom we cherish can only be achieved with a basic level of good will. No amount of police presence could secure Penn Station or most of the public spaces we travel through each day. Our society works, because people feel they have something to gain and something to lose. We need to think about what it is that drove the terrorists to such acts of desperation. True Peace is not merely the absence of violence, but the presence of Justice. Submitted by Lisa Y. Flores1000Fresno, CaliforniaMy cousin is a firefighter, my father is a retired police officer, my sister is a federal worker, and I am a state employee. This incident could have easily happened to mi familia. On Tuesday, I was returning from beautiful San Luis Obispo when I turned on the TV in my hotel room to hear the news of the day while I was getting dressed. When I saw what happened, my first thought was what third world country WAS attacked by terrorists then I realized it was New York City. I realized at the moment ALL our lives have been changed forever by this cowardly act. All week long two televisions has been turned on at work to let us know whats going on. My first thought was of the Port Authority men and women whom I met last year at the SEIU Convention in Pittsburgh names I have forgotten but whose generosity to my local have made a mark on my heart. All week long I have been telling my co-workers that WE have family in that building, and of the generosity of other SEIU locals to us and that now is our time to give back in a BIG way. And now with the update to the SEIU website, I see we have more family members involved. Words cannot express my sadness, but I know my action will. I am reminded of a slogan used by Andy Stern: Pray for the dead, fight for the living. I pray each day for the souls of all those union brothers and sisters who showed me (and my local) kindness and support through the years and I fight for the living, their families. Personally, I will be contributing financially and will be forwarding the e-mail send from Andy to all my co-workers. I will be asking our members (and non-members) to reach VERY deep into their pockets to contribute as well. To think of the lost, of a mother, father, brother, sister, and friend how can we not act? Personally, I will be forwarding a check for $100 to you by the end of the work day because the great family of SEIU is in need, and how could I do anything less?
